Sainte-Chapelle Tickets 2026: Book Timed Entry to Paris’s Gothic Chapel
Updated September 2026
Sainte-Chapelle is one of Paris’s most breathtaking Gothic masterpieces — a royal chapel built in the 13th century to house the Crown of Thorns. Step inside and you’re surrounded by 15 floor-to-ceiling stained glass windows covering 600 square metres, flooding the upper chapel with jewel-coloured light. It’s small enough to visit in under an hour, yet completely unforgettable.
Located inside the Palais de la Cité on the Île de la Cité — the same historic island as Notre-Dame — Sainte-Chapelle sits within the same complex as the Conciergerie, the former royal palace and prison. A combined ticket covers both landmarks for less than buying separately.
Sainte-Chapelle ticket prices 2026
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| Sainte-Chapelle (standalone) | €13 |
| Conciergerie (standalone) | €13 |
| Combined Sainte-Chapelle + Conciergerie | ~€20 |
| Timed entry via GetYourGuide | from €25 |
A combined ticket gives you both landmarks for around €20 — saving roughly €6 compared to buying each separately. Timed entry tickets via GetYourGuide include queue-skip access and often include audio guides or small group tours.
Why book timed entry?
The chapel is small and extremely popular — one of the most visited sites in Paris after Notre-Dame and the Louvre. Entry queues can stretch 45–60 minutes in peak season (April–September). Timed entry lets you skip the general queue: you still go through security screening, but you enter at your allocated time slot without waiting in line. In summer, arriving without a reserved ticket is a gamble.

Visiting tips
- Best time: Early morning (09:00–10:00) or late afternoon (after 16:00) for the most dramatic light through the stained glass windows
- Security: Sainte-Chapelle sits within the Palais de Justice (law courts). Everyone passes through security — no exceptions, even with timed entry. Allow extra time.
- Nearby: Conciergerie (same complex), Notre-Dame Cathedral, Île Saint-Louis (5 min walk)
- Summer concerts: Sainte-Chapelle hosts evening classical music concerts from spring through autumn — chamber music performed beneath the extraordinary windows. Check the programme separately when booking your visit.
What makes Sainte-Chapelle special
The upper chapel is the showpiece — access was once reserved for royalty alone. The 15 magnificent windows tell the story of the Bible from Genesis to the Apocalypse in 1,113 scenes across 600 square metres of glass, all original 13th-century work. On a sunny day, the entire space glows deep red and blue.
The lower chapel, built for palace servants and staff, is equally worth exploring for its beautifully painted Gothic vaulting — lower ceilings, rich blue-painted columns covered in golden fleur-de-lis, and a very different atmosphere from the soaring upper level.
Sainte-Chapelle and Conciergerie: visiting both
The Conciergerie is a 5-minute walk from Sainte-Chapelle within the same Palais de la Cité complex. It served as the royal palace before the Louvre, and later as Paris’s most notorious prison during the French Revolution — Marie Antoinette was held here before her execution. A combined ticket for both sites offers strong value at around €20 and can be booked as timed entry on GetYourGuide.
